Hisland

I am always looking out for new bands, whether they are South African or International, I am always on the search for something new and exciting. I have found a  band who’s singles sound raw and edgy, as if they chose to record all analog. I feel that the top acts such as The Black Keys, The Foo Fighters, The Kings of Leon and even The band of Skulls are going this route.

This band goes by the name of Hisland (pronounced his-lynnd) and they are an unsigned band from Canada. They were formed in 2010 in Ontario and have a Kings of Leon meets the Black Keys sound with a touch of blues thrown in there. This is a young band who are new on the scene and I’m so glad I came across them, they will definitely feature on my radio show sometime very soon. Its a four piece band that consist of Sal (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jacob Anthony (drums, b/g vocals), Mat Anthony (lead guitar), and Pavel (bass).

My favourite track I heard off their band page on facebook has to be Liars Chair. Its sound is reminiscent of a Strokes album, with more of a commercial sound, but in a positive way. They have already been nominated for a few awards, their first single release The Devil was nominated for ‘Best Rock Song’ at the 2010 Hollywood Media Awards, the lead singer Sal also recieved a nomination for ‘Best male Vocalist’ at the 2011 L.A Music Awards.

I wish this band all the best and I hope I am on the mailing list for their next album. You will definitely hear them on ‘The Rock Dimension’ with Gary Cool on 2 Oceansvibe Radio sometime in February.

Go check out their site, listen to their tracks and follow them on the Social Networks, The links are located at the bottom of their site http://www.hislandband.com
